Police still seek shooter

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Macomb Township businessman survived a targeted shooting outside his home on 24 Mile Road Tuesday morning.

Eddie Jawad was in his SUV when an assailant opened fire.

“Somebody was lying and waiting. You can see them between the two cars, started shooting immediately,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “You see Ed’s vehicle go over his own grass, right there in front of the house.”

Lucido, who has known Jawad for years, attended the December ribbon-cutting for Jawad’s gas station at 23 Mile and VanDyke. Jawad, who owns multiple gas stations in the area, has been vocal in opposing the expansion of Pennsylvania-based chain Sheetz in the region.

Lucido praised Jawad’s straightforward approach.

“What Eddie wanted to make sure was that what is in his mind and what was in his heart, it was coming out of his mouth,” he said. “I appreciate those kind of people that they’re not holding back.”

The attack has sent ripples through the local business community.

Faye Nemer, CEO of the MENA American Chamber of Commerce, said Jawad worked his way up from a gas station employee to becoming an owner.

“It was definitely concerning to both myself and a lot of individuals that are part of the business community, where they feel the need to take extra precautions as business owners,” Nemer said.

No one is in custody.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday afternoon they had no updates on their investigation.
