Livingston County deputies said they learned around noon Oct. 6, 2025, that Bath Township officers were following a driver on I-96 from Ingham County.
Police believed the driver had a handgun and was linked to a domestic violence case in Bath Township.
Dash cam video from a Livingston County deputy showed the police chase.
The driver passed police in a silver SUV and then swerved across two lanes, coming to a near stop in the left and center lanes.
He swerved back across the lanes to the right lane, where he stuck his arm out the window to gesture at the following officer.
He moved into the middle lane in front of the officer and then continued in the left lane for about a minute. He passed a car on the right and then went back to the left to use a turnaround and go into oncoming traffic.
As the deputy turned to follow the driver, his dash cam captured the silver SUV kicking up a cloud of dirt as it accelerated on the shoulder of the opposite highway.
The driver passed several cars and semi trucks that were heading the other way. He took a bump from the patrol car and then gestured out the window again. He drove up the grass between the highway and the entrance ramp.
The officer bumped in again near the top of the entrance ramp, and the man gestured out the window again. Another couple of bumps from the patrol car spun the SUV out, and the man reversed slowly before being blocked by the deputy.
He got out of the car still gesturing at the deputy. He threw his hat on the ground, walked away for a few steps, and had his hands up. Then police used a taser and he fell down.
The driver was ultimately taken into custody after police used a taser. He was turned over to Bath Township police without further incident.
