BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A slider and French fry joint in Birmingham is moving locations with more parking and faster service after more than 73 years at its current location.

Hunter House in downtown Birmingham has been at the northwest corner of Woodward and Maple Rd. in the central business district since the Eisenhower administration. Come Oct. 31, the business will pick up and rebuild about a mile south at a former KFC at Woodward Ave. and Lincoln St. in the Triangle District effective Nov. 1.

Guests planning a visit to the new location will at first be eating in a semi-permanent large, heated tent on the site as the space is built to replicate the long-standing restaurant. Cooking will take place inside, including on the existing Hunter House grill that’s being relocated.

It’s being designed by Royal Oak-based von Staden Architects, which also created the near-replica of Hunter House on the United Wholesale Mortgage campus in Pontiac.

The renovated building should be completed early next year.
