MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A suspect accused of targeting a well-known businessman in a shooting while he was leaving his Macomb County mansion last week is facing charges.
Jasan Delanta Martin, 32, has been charged with assault with intent to murder (a life or any term of years felony), possession of a weapon by a prohibited person (a five-year felony), carrying a weapon with an unlawful intent (a five-year felony) and three counts of felony firearm (each a two-year felony, consecutive to the main charge), in connection with shooting Eddie Jawad.
At the time of the shooting, Martin was allegedly on parole out of Ohio for aggravated robbery, kidnapping and assault with a dangerous weapon, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
Lucido and Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham announced the charges and provided updates on the case during a news conference on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. You can watch the full update in the video at the top of this article.
Here’s what we learned during the police update:
Suspect arrives at Macomb County home
Surveillance video shows the suspect arriving at Wellington Valley Drive at about 8:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, which is located directly to the east of Eddie Jawad’s home on 24 Mile Road in Macomb Township.
The suspect arrived in a black Ford vehicle, which was later identified as a 2020 Ford Escape.

Suspect climbs wall
At about 9:30 a.m., the suspect climbed a wall to get onto Jawad’s property.
Jawad leaves garage, suspect starts shooting
At 10:18 a.m., Jawad left his garage and was traveling down the driveway in his SUV when the suspect, who was hiding between cars, fired shots at Jawad.

Jawad was grazed in the right leg and then hit in his left leg, according to the sheriff. He also suffered injuries from broken glass.
Investigators learned that seven shots were fired at Jawad from a 9mm handgun.
After the shooting, the suspect left Jawad’s yard and returned to a black SUV parked on Wellington Valley Drive.
Suspect vehicle had stolen plates
Police identified the vehicle using surveillance footage and discovered it had stolen plates on it.
The plates came back to a Cadillac in Detroit. That person confirmed their plate was stolen, and they were ruled out.
Detectives then used traffic cameras to track the car after the shooting, from the area of North Avenue and 21 Mile Road to 7 Mile and Kelly.
Suspect vehicle found
A potential match for the vehicle was found near 8 Mile and Gratiot. This vehicle had a proper plate on it.
“The vehicle had specific and consistent markings on it in locations that were not common,” Wickersham said. “We were able to identify brake dust on the wheel well, smudges that were on the vehicle and bird poop that was on the vehicle.”
The sheriff said the registered owner of the 2020 Ford Escape also matched the height and weight parameters of the suspect.
Investigators executed a search warrant for the Ford Global Security tracking information, which revealed the vehicle was parked at the registered owner’s home in Eastpointe before the shooting, and on Wellington Valley Drive during the shooting.
On Oct. 17, a search warrant was executed at the Eastpointe home, and an individual was brought in for questioning.
During that interview, police learned that the suspect had borrowed the vehicle from this person at the time of the shooting.
Authorities revealed that this person is a relative of the suspect, but didn’t release any other details.
Suspect arrested
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jasan Delanta Martin, was found at home on Rivard in Warren and taken into custody on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025.
Security camera video from a neighbor shows the moments officers carried out the raid at the Warren home at around 5 p.m. on Oct. 19. The video shows a SWAT team breaching the front door of the home.
Wickersham said Martin was continually turning his phone on and off to avoid being found, and surveillance footage also showed him dumping a duffel bag at a gas station in Detroit.
The sheriff’s office worked with multiple agencies and executed 23 search warrants as part of its investigation.
Motive
Investigators are working to determine the suspect’s motive.
Jawad owns several gas stations in Metro Detroit and has been outspoken against the expansion of Sheetz into the area, but when asked if the shooting had anything to do with this, Wickersham said they believe this was unrelated.
