Former Detroit hospital nurse charged in multiple sexual assault cases to appear in court

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A former nurse from Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit who is facing multiple sexual assault charges is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios, 47, is accused of assaulting a patient while he was working at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit and faces four other sexual assault charges, where prosecutors claimed he “preys on vulnerable patients” who seek help at the hospital.

He’s also accused of sexually assaulting a 41-year-old woman after forcing himself into a porta-potty on May 9 outside Grand Circus Park in Detroit.

Several lawsuits were filed against him and Sinai-Grace Hospital following his arraignment.

Figueroa-Berrios is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23 for a preliminary examination, where a judge will determine if there’s enough evidence to move the case to circuit court and face trial.
