Detroit celebrates opening of Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park after years of planning

Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for visitors

DETROIT – After years of planning and construction, Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park in Detroit officially opened.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said, “With the opening of Ralph Wilson Park today, we are building a riverfront that is going to be unrivaled in the United States.”

Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park has quickly become a new hotspot in Detroit, offering breathtaking views and activities for the whole family.

It’s a must-see destination.

Jim Boyle from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation said, “We want to make sure that everybody feels welcome. Public spaces are where we all come together as a community and all walks of life.”

The park offers everything from tranquil walking trails to full-size NBA basketball courts.

Maddie Wyatt, who lives in Novi, said, “This is an amazing asset to the community and it’s exciting to be here on the day and be a part of it. I can’t wait to see how it blossoms.”

The project has been in the making for seven years, and the Detroit community is happy it’s finally been brought to life.

Lifelong Detroiter Doreen Odom said, “It feels wonderful. It’s returning to the Detroit I knew.”

She added, “It’s been full circle, the dream has become a reality.”

The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for visitors.
