OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Oakland County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating reports of a suspicious person near two bus stops for Spring Mills Elementary School in Highland Township.

Huron Valley Schools officials alerted families by email on Thursday (Oct. 30) about two separate suspicious events during the morning bus runs at Spring Mills, located at 3150 Harvey Lake Road.

Police said the first incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a suspect, described by students as either a gray car or a tan-colored van driver, was parked near a bus stop.

Officials said the suspect got out of the vehicle, causing students to run inside and alert a parent.

When the parent checked outside, the vehicle had already left.

In a second incident at a different stop, police said a student reported a person dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask sitting in a red car nearby.

Officials said the suspect motioned for the student to approach, but the school bus arrived, and the car drove away.

Police said the student reported the incident to the bus driver, and school officials were notified. Both bus stops are near M-59 and Duck Lake Road.

Following those reports, school officials informed the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Milford police, and White Lake police.

Sheriff’s deputies said they will increase patrols along the bus route on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, during student pick-up and drop-off times to ensure safety.
