DETROIT – As the government shutdown continues, 40 airports in the United States will have their flights cut by 10%.

So far, the full list of airports has not been officially released. But the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to make that announcement on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025.

An exact time for the announcement has not been revealed, but 40 of the country’s “high-volume markets” will see flights canceled to decrease air traffic by 10%.

The hope is that this will keep the airspace safe during the government shutdown, according to the agency.

“I’m not aware in my 35-year history in the aviation market where we’ve had a situation where we’re taking these kinds of measures,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said at a news conference.

The cutback could impact thousands of flights, starting Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, according to experts who spoke to the Associated Press.

We’ll post the full list of affected airports as soon as it’s revealed.
