76-year-old from St. Clair Shores arrested for drunk driving after hitting police car

Police say driver’s BAC level was nearly twice the legal limit

A 76-year-old man from St. Clair Shores was arrested for drunk driving after rear-ending a Michigan State Police patrol car on Friday, Nov. 7, in Clinton Township (WDIV)

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 76-year-old man from St. Clair Shores was arrested for drunk driving after rear-ending a Michigan State Police patrol car on Friday, Nov. 7, in Clinton Township.

The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on eastbound Metropolitan Parkway near Gratiot Avenue.

A trooper was on patrol in a marked police car when the Jeep, driven by the man, hit the patrol vehicle from behind.

Officers found the driver was intoxicated. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

He was arrested and taken to the Macomb County Jail.

Charges are still pending.

“Drunk drivers are a danger to all of us,” said First Lt. Mike Shaw. “There is absolutely no reason to drive drunk. Ever. With the holiday season right around the corner, hopefully this will serve as a reminder to not drive drunk.”
