LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Police investigated a TikTok post threatening a shooting at Howell High School on Monday and discovered it was made as a “joke.”

Overnight, police learned about the post, “that indicated an intent by the author to conduct a shooting at the Howell High School this week,” according to a new release.

The Howell Police Department School Resource Officer was notified and immediately began investigating and, with assistance from an FBI agent, linked the threat to a home in Marion Township.

The offender admitted to making the post, but said “there were no intentions of carrying out any form of violence as it was intended as a joke,” according to the police department.

There are no weapons connected to the home, and police said there isn’t a reason to believe there are “any further potential threats to the public or schools.”

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be sent to the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office to review for potential charges.

Due to the offender’s age, no one has been arrested at this time, according to police.

“We take these types of threats of violence against our children very seriously and sympathize with all of the families affected by the poor choices made by one individual,” Howell Police Chief Michael Dunn said in a news release. “We also thank the assistance of the FBI Detroit – Ann Arbor Resident Office for their rapid assistance in this incident."
