Detroit man accused of killing girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter

DETROIT – A Detroit man is accused of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, officials said.

Lovenia Spivey, 21, has been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in connection with the child’s death, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials say the 3-year-old girl died after being assaulted at a home in the 14000 block of Riverview Street in Detroit at 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2024.

The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment and died from her injuries on Nov. 18, 2024.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner found that the girl’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Detroit police arrested Spivey on Nov. 14, 2025.

More information will be revealed during Spivey’s preliminary examination.

During a preliminary hearing, evidence is presented to a judge, who will then determine whether there is probable cause to bind the defendant over to Circuit Court, where they will potentially face trial.

Spivey was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday afternoon.
