DETROIT – An annual tradition will happen on Thursday to help end youth homelessness.
Hundreds will sleep outside at Covenant House, braving the cold to raise awareness and funds to fight this growing crisis.
During the 2023-2024 school year, more than 35,000 students in Michigan experienced homelessness, and that number keeps rising.
The event starts on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at Covenant House on Martin Luther King Boulevard. The evening includes a candlelight vigil, remarks from young people who have lived through homelessness, discussions and camp setup before participants sleep out overnight.
Amy Oprean, a Covenant House Spokesperson, joined Local 4 Live to talk about this important event. You can watch the full interview at the beginning of this article.
