Senior officials found a “financial discrepancy” once the program had finalized a charity event in July. Barnes was one of the associate advisors of the Police Explorer program at the time.

He was fired from the Warren Police Department after he was charged.

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Barnes pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement from a nonprofit. He has since paid the full restitution and a fine.

Barnes was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to complete a Class A Impulse Control Program and the Economic Crimes Prevention Program.
