Road closures, bus reroutes, parking for America’s Thanksgiving Parade, presented by Gardner White

What to know for Thanksgiving Parade on Nov. 27

DETROIT – The city of Detroit has announced details about street closures, parking, bus reroutes and more for the 2025 America’s Thanksgiving Parade, presented by Gardner White.

In addition to the parade, visitors will also be in Detroit for the Turkey Trot and the Detroit Lions game on Thursday, Nov. 27.

Road closures

Starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Gratiot will close between Farmer and Woodward for parade show set up.

WDIV’s pre-parade coverage begins at 6 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. The parade show starts at 9 a.m., and America’s Thanksgiving Parade is from 10 a.m. to noon.

The following closures will be in place starting on Wednesday, Nov. 26:

  • Woodward between W. Grand Blvd and Warren to close at 9 a.m.
  • Woodward from Warren to Congress to close at noon.
  • Atwater from Civic Center Drive to the Residence Water’s Square Valet will close at 1:30 pm.
  • Griswold between Fort and Congress to close at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, Nov. 27, motorists can cross Woodward Avenue at the following intersections until 5 a.m.:

  • Warren
  • Alexandrine
  • MLK/Mack
  • Fisher Service Drive
  • Adams
  • Park/Witherall
  • John R/Clifford
  • Grand River

City officials said Woodward will be closed from West Grand Boulevard to Larned from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

The following streets will be closed from 5 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, and reopen at 10 a.m. after the Turkey Trot:

  • W. Jefferson from the Lodge Freeway to Cabacier
  • Michigan at Cass
  • Fort Street from Trumbull to Woodward
  • Congress from Shelby to Randolph
  • Larned from Shelby to Randolph
  • Shelby from Congress to Michigan
  • Michigan from Cass to Woodward
  • Monroe from Woodward to Randolph
  • Lafayette Blvd. from Trumbull to Griswold
  • Washington Blvd. from Adams to Congress
  • Atwater from Civic Center Dr. to Third

Also, beginning at 7 a.m., the southbound Lodge exits at W. Jefferson/Cobo and Larned Street (Exits 1A & 1B), and the northbound Lodge exit at W. Jefferson (Exit 1A) will be closed for the Turkey Trot.

The Larned exit will open once the Turkey Trot ends.

Parking

The Detroit Municipal Parking Department recommends the following parking facilities to visitors on Thanksgiving Day:

Ford Underground Garage -- 30 E. Jefferson Avenue

  • Nov. 26: 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. ($5 for first two hours, $10 for two to four hours, $15 for more than four hours)
  • Nov. 27: 5 a.m. - 7 p.m. ($10)
  • Nov. 28: 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. ($5 for first two hours, $10 for two to four hours, $15 for more than four hours)
  • Nov. 29: Closed
  • Nov. 30: 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. ($5 for first two hours, $10 for two to four hours, $15 for more than four hours)

Eastern Market Garage -- 2727 Riopelle Street

  • Nov. 26: 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. ($5)
  • Nov. 27: 5 a.m. - 7 p.m. ($10)
  • Nov. 28: Closed
  • Nov. 29: 5 a.m. - 5 p.m. ($5)
  • Nov. 30: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. ($5)

(Normal business hours will continue on Monday, Dec. 1)

Street parking

Residents and visitors can get free metered street parking on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28.

Drivers are reminded not to block driveways, crosswalks, fire hydrants or other access points. If this happens, drivers could be ticketed and their cars could be towed.

DDOT bus reroutes

The city said DDOT customers should expect delays starting at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day due to the road closures.

The following bus routes will be impacted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to the parade:

  • 3 Grand River
  • 4 Woodward
  • 5 Van Dyke/Lafayette
  • 6 Gratiot
  • 8 Warren
  • 9 Jefferson
  • 16 Dexter
  • 23 Hamilton
  • 31 Mack
  • 42 Mid-City Loop
  • 52 Chene
  • 67 Cadillac/Harper

The following bus routes will be impacted from 7 a.m. to around 10 a.m. because of the Turkey Trot:

  • 1 Vernor
  • 3 Grand River (The Grand River detour will continue until 5 p.m.)
  • 19 Fort
  • 27 Joy
  • 29 Linwood

DDOT buses will operate according to a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving for regular routes and fares.

Detroit People Mover

The Detroit People Mover will be in operation from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

The Grand Circus Park Station will be offering free hot chocolate and hand warmers from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Visitors can also stop by the station for free giveaways during the parade.

The station is located at 1 Park Street between Woodward and Washington (It’s located next to the Autograph David Whitney Hotel).

Lost children

During the event, if a child gets lost, parents can find them at the Detroit Police Department Downtown Services, 20 Atwater, or call 313-237-2850.
