MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A teen driver has died, and one person was seriously injured following a head-on crash in Monroe County.
The crash occurred on Monday (Nov. 24) at 5:28 p.m. on South Telegraph Road, north of West Stein Road in LaSalle Township.

Police said their investigation showed that Abbigal Garbers, 19, of Morenci, was driving a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla northbound on Telegraph Road.
For unknown reasons, officials said Garbers crossed the centerline into the southbound lane and struck a gray 2015 Hyundai Sonata head-on, operated by Palmer G. Merkel, 35, of Temperance.
After the collision, police said the Hyundai came to rest in the middle of the roadway facing westbound, while the Toyota stopped on the southbound shoulder facing east.
Officials said Garbers was transported to Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Merkel was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo and was listed in serious condition.
Officials said both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
Police said driver inattention is considered a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriffs Cody Carena and Hunter Chirillo of the Traffic Services Division.
