Millions of Michiganders travel for Thanksgiving as Detroit Metro Airport sees mostly on-time flights

FlightAware reported 64 delays and one cancellation on Friday evening

ROMULUS, Mich. – Millions of Michiganders are on the move this Thanksgiving weekend, traveling by car and plane, according to AAA.

At Detroit Metro Airport, everything seems to be running smoothly. Flights are taking off, and travelers are moving through security with ease.

FlightAware reported 64 delays and one cancellation on Friday (Nov. 28) evening.

Over the past few days, many people have been flying in and out to spend Thanksgiving with loved ones.

Now that the holiday is over, travelers are eager to get back home.

Local 4 spoke with some travelers at Detroit Metro Airport to hear about their experiences.

Kiara Cargill, a traveler, said, “I flew through Delta, of course, and I had a delay, but it was only like 38 minutes, so it was pretty smooth. My flight landed on time still, so we did good.”

Dionne Richardson, another traveler, shared, “Usually it’s a time that I try to gear myself up for the heavy travel, but it hasn’t really been too bad. I think we were strategic about the time of when we traveled, so it ended up being not such a bad travel day for us.”

AAA’s data shows that more Michiganders are hitting the roads for the holiday than taking a plane.

However, they still estimate that nearly 225,000 people will fly during Thanksgiving weekend.
