Detroit mayor-elect Mary Sheffield hosts community engagement event to shape her 100-day action plan

Residents had the chance to share their ideas, concerns, and hopes for the city’s future

DETROIT – Detroit mayor-elect Mary Sheffield kept her promise to engage residents by hosting a community event titled “Organizing to Rise Higher” at the Marygrove Conservancy.

The event, held on Monday (Dec. 1), brought Detroiters together to hear directly from Sheffield as she prepares to take office.

Residents had the chance to share their ideas, concerns, and hopes for the city’s future.

“They want investment, they want housing, they want safety, and so those are the things that we are going to continue to lift up as mayor, but, again, I think being rooted here in transition again brings movement back here, and I think that’s most important to us in this process,” Sheffield said.

Participants also participated in a collaborative session to shape the new administration’s 100-Day Action Plan.

“This transition is about listening, learning, and building together,” said Sheffield. “Detroiters deserve to see their own priorities reflected in their government, and today’s conversation again showed how powerful our community is when we come together.”

The event brought Detroiters together to:

● Hear directly from the Mayor-Elect as she prepares to take office

● Share their ideas, concerns, and hopes for Detroit’s future

● Participate in a collaborative session to help shape the Administration’s 100-Day Action Plan

● Add their voice to key policy priorities emerging from Detroit residents across all seven Council districts

The session allowed residents to add their voices to key policy priorities emerging from communities across all seven Detroit City Council districts.

Beginning in early 2026, Rise Higher Detroit will launch a citywide community survey and a series of larger community engagement events to reach thousands of Detroiters across the city.

Detroiters interested in learning about open positions can do so by visiting “Job Opportunities.”

Sheffield’s initiative underscores her commitment to inclusive governance and community-driven policymaking.
