DETROIT – A restaurant named after all-time great boxer Joe Louis is opening its third location on a big day next year.

Joe Louis Southern Kitchen is opening on April 3, 2026, at 1528 Woodward Ave. in Grand Circus Park in Downtown Detroit. April 3 is also Detroit Tigers Opening Day.

The restaurant will be the third since 2021. The first opened in Midtown at 6549 Woodward. A Southfield location opened last month on Northwestern Highway.

The restaurant is owned by Joe Louis Barrow II, the son of the all-time great boxer Joe Louis.

The all-day breakfast spot will feature many of the same items sold at other locations. That includes “The Weigh In” skillet, made with egg whites, swiss cheese, broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, peppers and onions, and garnished with avocado slices; “The Heavyweight” omelet, made with three eggs, spicy beef sausage, bacon, pork sausage, spinach, mushrooms, onions and cheese; and “The Champ: chicken sandwich, made with a fried chicken breast and topped with apple cabbage slaw, pickles and the restaurant’s signature Brown Bomber sauce on a grilled brioche bun, and served with french fries.

The decor will include items showing off Joe Louis’ milestones and photographs from his career.

The new Joe Louis Southern Kitchen will also be open for extended hours during downtown events.
