Two dead, ages 13 and 22, after falling through ice on Michigan lake

Two people are dead after falling through the ice on a Northern Michigan lake over the weekend.

Johnathan Brake, 22, and a 13-year-old boy died after they fell through the ice on Island Lake in Kalkaska Township on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, according to UpNorthLive. Kalkaska Township is about 20 miles southeast of Traverse City.

Weather: Winter weather returns to Metro Detroit with a one, two punch

Winter weather is affecting Metro Detroit with two rounds of precipitation. The first round brings light snow and possible freezing drizzle.
