DETROIT – Children’s Hospital of Michigan hosted its annual ‘Snowpile’ event -- a free gift giveaway for patients who are hospitalized and their families.

During Snowpile, parents or guardians get to “shop” for free for the patient and their siblings from thousands of new toys and gift items donated by the community.

After selecting gifts, families take them to wrapping stations where volunteers wrap the presents for holiday giving.

Families chose from thousands of toys, books, games, pajamas and stuffed animals -- all donated by community members, businesses, and organizations throughout the year.

BJ’s Wholesale Club also contributed by donating a $12,500 check from two Metro Detroit clubs to purchase toys.

The event helps ease the stress of holiday shopping and gift-giving for families already coping with the challenges of having a hospitalized child.

Community members who still want to donate gifts, which are shared throughout the year with patients, can use the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Amazon Wishlist.
