Are you traveling for the holidays? Here’s what Michiganders need to know before heading out the door.
Traveling by plane
If you’re heading to the airport on Christmas Eve, you might want to leave early.
AAA expects 8 million Americans will board flights for Christmas. It’s another record-breaking holiday travel season.
So far, Local 4 has seen at least seven flights delayed at Detroit Metro Airport.
To avoid headaches, try getting there at least two hours early and always check your flight status before leaving home.
Traveling by car
AAA expects more than 122.4 million people will take a road trip before New Year’s Day.
The good news is that you likely won’t run into much traffic on the freeways on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. However, Friday is a different story. AAA expects roads to be crowded between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
If you need to travel on Friday, it’s best to do so before 11 a.m.
Gas prices
AAA reports the state’s average cost per gallon of gas is sitting at $2.78.
Wayne County is a couple of cents lower at $2.76. Oakland County prices are around $2.91.
Tow To Go
AAA’s Tow-to-go program begins Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m.
It’s a free way to get you and your car to a safe location within 10 miles.
The program will be available until 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day. No membership is required.
Call 855-TOW-2-GO, and AAA will send a tow truck to get you home safely.
