MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A woman was injured after being run over by a car in Monroe County on Christmas Eve.
It happened on Helen Street near Barney Street on Dec. 24, just before 10 p.m.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 57-year-old Monroe man was driving slowly on Helen Street when a 33-year-old South Rockwood woman approached the driver’s side door and grabbed the handle multiple times to get the man’s attention.
The Monroe man stopped his car, and the two then engaged in a brief conversation before the man pulled away and continued driving on Helen Street.
While looking in his rearview mirror, he saw the South Rockwood woman sitting on the side of the road. The man stopped his car and returned to find the woman injured.
He then brought her to his car and took her to a local hospital. She is in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office believes that as the man drove away on Helen Street, the woman fell to the ground and was run over.
Authorities said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
