36-year-old man killed in Christmas Day crash in Erie Township

Driver was not wearing a seatbelt at time of crash, police say

ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 36-year-old man died following a car crash on Christmas Day on S. Telegraph Road, southwest of E. Temperance Road in Erie Township.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 1:40 p.m. when the driver’s gray 2003 Toyota Camry left the road for unknown reasons and entered a ditch.

The car continued through the ditch before striking a tree, which ejected the driver.

It then overturned and came to rest on its passenger side.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Multiple airbags deployed during the crash, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Traffic Services Division is investigating the crash.
