ROMULUS, Mich. – Two brothers say they were stabbed in a hotel foyer in Romulus Saturday night. Local 4 spoke to one of the brothers as he works to recover.
The stabbing unfolded around 6 p.m. Saturday at the Wyndham Garden Hotel near Detroit Metro Airport, the family said.
“My little brothers were swimming in the pool with my mom,” Anthony Hagen said.
Anthony Hagen is the oldest of the four boys, who live in Flat Rock, but were staying at the hotel with their mom for a few days for the holidays.
While the little ones were swimming, 21-year-old Anthony Hagen and his brother Josh Hagen were in the car near the door.
“As we are grabbing my stuff from the back of my truck tailgate, the guy rolls his window down and he starts saying stuff to me and my brother,” Anthony Hagen said.
He said the man was upset because their truck was close to his. The brothers and the man went back and forth a few times.
“He says ‘I have something for you’ and the whole time he has his hands in his hoodie and he’s digging around in it,” Anthony Hagen said.
He said the man eventually pulled out a knife.
“We start walking off, we disengaged and started going through the door,” Anthony Hagen said. “We get to the door, and we hear him running up behind us.”
Anthony Hagen said the man sprayed pepper spray at Josh Hagen.
“We ended up on the ground and in between the two doors of the lobby … the next thing I know, my brother is telling me that he’s stabbed and the dude has a knife and we need to go,” Anthony Hagen said.
Anthony Hagen tells me another man from inside the hotel came up and held the man who had stabbed his brother at gunpoint until the police got there.
“The police show up, they arrested him, and they started tending to my brother,” Anthony Hagen said.
Anthony Hagen also went to check on Josh Hagen, who was on the ground and stabbed six times.
“As soon as I lifted his shirt, it started spurting,” Anthony Hagen said.
Josh Hagen is currently in the step-down unit at the hospital trying to recover, his family said.
Anthony Hagen was stabbed, too.
“My finger, my pointer, my index finger, has a slice in it around the halfway point just above the knuckle,” he said.
Local 4 reached out to the Romulus Police Department multiple times on Saturday.
They said they could not comment on the situation and had no additional information.
Local 4 also reached out to Wyndham Hotels corporate and have not heard back.
