FLINT, Mich. – Dozens of Ring camera videos showing graphic content of a woman abusing a 10-month-old baby went viral on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok before many were taken down.
Police identified the woman as 26-year-old Alexis Harris, who was arrested in Flint. Harris has ties to Macomb County.
The baby in the videos reportedly was Harris’s own niece. The baby’s mother, Christian Harris, said she trusted Alexis to babysit her child.
Christian said her brother found the videos while checking the inside cameras at the home he shared with Alexis.
She said she literally broke down crying and couldn’t watch more than 30 seconds.
Christian said Alexis babysat her daughter from August to October. The abuse reportedly happened over three days in October at a home on Flint’s eastside.
“She’s always been a very happy baby,” Christian said. “During that period of those three days, she did sleep a lot, but I thought it was just because she was teething.”
After discovering the videos, Christian said they called the police but felt the response was too slow. That’s when they posted some of the videos on social media.
Flint police said calls flooded their phone lines from all over. They thanked the public for sharing their concerns.
Christian said it bothers her that she didn’t realize her child was abused.
As for the 10-month-old girl, Christian said she is doing well.
“She’s happy. She’s healthy. We took her to the hospital twice and to her primary doctor. There were no injuries,” Christian said. “They did a whole skeletal X-ray and there were no injuries whatsoever.”
Alexis Harris faces six criminal charges. She is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 8.
If convicted of first-degree child abuse, Harris could face up to life in prison.
