2 dead after car crashes into tree in Lenawee County

Police believe driver suffered medical emergency

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. – A man and a woman have died in a crash Sunday afternoon in Lenawee County.

The crash happened at around 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 on US-12 near Wisner Highway in Franklin Township.

After further investigation, police determined that an 85-year-old Brooklyn man was driving eastbound on US-12 when he drove off the road and struck a tree. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Jackson, died at the scene.

According to police, the driver may have suffered from a medical emergency leading to the crash. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
