ROMULUS, Mich. – A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly trying to get into Romulus Middle School with a gun, according to a school official.
Romulus School Board President Porsche Laster said on Facebook that a person tried to get into the middle school while brandishing a firearm on Jan. 6.
Police confirmed they arrested a 44-year-old man outside the school after being called to the scene on reports of an active shooter.
A handgun has been recovered.
Laster said the school district’s superintendent, Dr. Benjamin Edmondson, sent a robocall to all parents across the district regarding the situation.
The school went under a soft lockdown as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues.
Local 4 spoke with a parent, who said they received a call at around 10:30 a.m. about a shooter who was stopped from entering the school.
Romulus Middle School is located on Wick Road between Wayne and Hannan roads, just across I-94 from Detroit Metro Airport.
According to the school’s website, classes resumed Monday, Jan. 5, following holiday break.
