Harper Woods man dies by suicide after stabbing partner in early morning domestic incident

HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A Harper Woods man died by suicide after stabbing his partner in an early morning domestic incident.

The incident occurred on Friday (Jan. 9) before 2 a.m., when Harper Woods police responded to the area of Hunt Club Drive near Duprey Avenue regarding two men down in the street.

Upon their arrival, Harper Woods police said they located the two men unresponsive.

Police said one man, a 47-year-old Harper Woods resident, was dead.

The second man, a 34-year-old Detroit resident, had signs of life and was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition after sustaining at least one stab wound in the neck.

Police said the 47-year-old man sustained what appeared to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

Through investigation, it was determined that the subjects were in a dating relationship and returned to Harper Woods from a birthday celebration.

From the evidence collected and eye-witness statements, detectives believe the subjects were engaged in an altercation, the 47-year-old stabbed the 34-year-old, then turned his firearm on himself, taking his own life.
