Inkster man charged with first-degree murder in New Year’s Eve shooting

An investigation by the Inkster Police Department led to the defendant’s arrest on Jan. 6, 2026

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Brocc Pedro Straughter, 19, of Inkster, in connection with the New Year’s Eve fatal shooting of Rondale Harris, 34, also of Inkster.

On Dec. 31, 2025, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Inkster police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Longfellow Street for a reported shooting.

Upon their arrival, officers located Harris in the living room of the home, unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Medics arrived on the scene and transported Harris to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that Straughter fired a handgun, fatally wounding Harris, before fleeing the scene.

An investigation by the Inkster Police Department led to the Straughter’s arrest on Jan. 6, 2026.

More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination.

Straughter has been charged with first-degree murder and felony in possession of a firearm.

He was unable to be arraigned on Friday, Jan. 9, in 22nd District Court because the court lost power.

Straughter may be arraigned on Jan. 10, 2026, in 36th District Court on their weekend arraignment docket.
