HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A 17-year-old boy from Detroit was charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy for bringing a gun to his high school in Harper Woods.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (Jan. 13) at 8:37 p.m. at Chandler Park Academy, located in the 20200 block of Kelly Road.

It is alleged that the teen brought an unsecured and unlicensed handgun into the school in his backpack.
Police said the teen allegedly concealed the handgun in a locker.
Harper Woods police officers were dispatched to the school and took the juvenile into custody.
The 17-year-old student has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon in a weapons-free school zone.
The preliminary hearing was held on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at the juvenile detention facility.
The 17-year-old student received a $2,000/10% bond with the conditions of no possession of firearms or firearm accessories, no illegal drug use, and compliance with school disciplinary action.
His next court date is a pretrial scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026, at 10 a.m.
