4Warn Weather Alert extended through Thursday morning for Metro Detroit -- Here’s why

Poor road conditions, wind chills below zero in Metro Detroit

4Warn Weather Alert. (WDIV)

The 4Warn Weather Alert issued on Wednesday has extended into Thursday morning for Metro Detroit.

Wednesday’s snow event was an overachiever to say the least due to lake effect moisture, which was grossly underestimated with all model data.

What is a 4Warn Weather Alert?

Local 4 issues a 4Warn Weather Alert when weather conditions are expected to be inconvenient for our viewers.

Why was the alert extended?

We have extended the 4Warn Weather Alert through Thursday morning due to poor road conditions and wind chills below zero.

Thursday forecast

As we look ahead, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Huron and Sanilac counties until 10 a.m. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches remain possible through mid-morning.

Lake effect snow showers taper off by midday, with a small window of clearing possible this afternoon. Highs will be about ten degrees below average, in the low 20s. However, the wind chills at best will be in the single digits with the brisk wind.
