Information obtained by police upon their arrival was that the suspect was possibly armed with a firearm inside the residence with a child.

Officers said they established a perimeter around the residence, at which point they began to detect a strong gas odor.

As a result, the building was evacuated, and the Howell Area Fire Department responded to shut off the building’s gas supply.

Officers continued to attempt contact with the suspect, who was alleged to be inside with the child.

There was an open window to the residence, which allowed officers to safely remove the child from the building and reunite the child with the mother.

Upon obtaining a search warrant, police said a team of officers entered the apartment and found it vacant.

Due to several ongoing parts of this investigation that remain open, police said they will not be releasing any further information at this time.

There is no threat to the public at this time.
