Detroit Auto Show opens to public with latest cars, classics and interactive rides

Highlights include Road Runner model, Ford Bronco rides and family-friendly fun

DETROIT – The Detroit Auto Show opened to the public Saturday, Jan. 17, drawing crowds eager to see the latest vehicles and automotive technology.

Visitors came from near and far to get an up-close look at new models and classic cars.

One highlight was a special Road Runner model, described as “top of the line performance” by JD Long of Vanguard Motors.

For those who prefer something less flashy than neon green, there were plenty of other options from brands like Jeep, Ford and Bentley.

Merrill Cain, director of public relations for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, called the event a tradition.

“It’s been here for so many years and back in January where people are used to it. Great way to kick off the year,” Cain said.

Even visitors not in the market for a new car enjoyed learning about the vehicles.

Maria Benedek, visiting from Miami, said she hoped to “get some outreach” and talk to owners if possible.

The show also featured interactive activities, including a ride in a new Ford Bronco.

Professional driver Sara Haro said, “Our favorite part is absolutely Bronco mountain here.”

For some attendees, the Bronco ride was the main attraction. Rebecca Dick from St. Clair Shores said she had already seen it on the news and recently bought a Bronco herself.

Chad Ripley and his son Cooper even traveled from Ontario to try it out.

The event offered something for all ages.

Kali Gray, a youngster from Belleville, was ready to “put the pedal to the metal” and enjoy the experience.

The Detroit auto show runs through Sunday, Jan. 25.
