According to WDIV’s affiliate in Houston, Sherry Dawson traveled to a storage unit on Nov. 5, 2025, to pick up some items. After she was gone for some time, her husband went to check on her, where he found her dead with gunshot wounds.

At the scene, her husband allegedly told detectives that he was involved in drug trafficking and worked as a middleman between a supplier and a buyer. After collecting money from a buyer, he’d give it to a supplier, who would then get the product to the buyer, according to records.

Stitts allegedly paid $125,000 for cocaine and Dawson’s husband received a $10,000 cut to help in the setup. However, Stitts never received the cocaine, and communications between the two stopped.

Dawson’s husband told police that Stitts frequently flew back and forth from Houston.

According to police, Stitts was traveling north out of Houston and then out of the state before arriving back in Detroit just hours after the shooting.

Police also said Stitts was surveilling Dawson’s home before the alleged murder, and phone records showed Stitts in the area of the storage unit at the time of the murder.

Stitts was previously convicted of drug charges and assault.
