Talking about the invisible work of running a household

Hey there WDIV Insiders! It’s Kimberly Gill here!

I hope you’ve had a great start to the new year. We’re already digging into some really meaningful stories for 2026, and there’s one topic I can’t stop thinking about lately: The Mental Load.

You’ve probably heard that phrase before. It’s the invisible work of running a household and family -- often also while working a full time job. It’s remembering appointments. Planning meals. Signing kids up for camps months in advance. Keeping track of school projects, doctor visits, birthdays, forms, and a hundred tiny details that never seem to end. It’s the thinking work, not just the physical work.

I’ll be honest, this topic hits close to home for me. Not because my partner didn’t try, but because he couldn’t see all the invisible things I was carrying. And when those things go unseen, they also go unappreciated. Over time, that weight adds up.

I know I’m not alone. So I want to hear from you.

Do you feel the mental load in your relationship or family?

Does it fall mostly on you, or are you the one just starting to realize how much your partner carries?

How does it affect your stress, your marriage, your parenting, your career, or even how you see yourself?

Your stories could help shape an upcoming Local 4 conversation. We’re considering a panel discussion with real families and a psychologist to talk about what the mental load really is, why it’s so common and what can actually help.

If you’re willing, I’d love for you to fill out the form below and share a little of your experience. You can keep it short. You can keep it anonymous. You can just tell the honest truth. No judgement here.

As always, thank you for being our most loyal, thoughtful, and engaged viewers. This community matters so much to me because your stories are my stories.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
