DETROIT – Detroit Dog Rescue is urgently calling for families to foster dogs for two weeks to protect them from the brutal cold.

The shelter is at capacity, and many veterinary boarding facilities are full, making it difficult to care for all the dogs found in freezing conditions.

In the next 24 hours, more dogs are expected to die from the cold than survive, highlighting the critical need for foster homes.

The rescue is specifically seeking foster families willing to care for medium- to large-sized pitbull-type dogs.

The dogs are loving, mostly potty-trained, gentle, temperament-tested, and have spent far too long in shelters.

Fostering requires no long-term commitment or hassles.

The shelter provides everything needed, including food, medical care, toys, and support from foster coordinators.

They emphasize, “We don’t just dump a dog on you.”

Fostering a dog increases its chances of adoption by giving it a chance to experience a home environment.

Those interested can apply to foster at DetroitDogRescue.com.

If unsure which dog to foster, applicants can write “open” in the pet name section, and the rescue will help find the perfect match.
