MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 50-year-old Aron Edwards, Jr., of Warren, was arraigned on charges related to a drug overdose death.
It is alleged that on Sept. 2, 2025, Clinton Township Police responded to a residence on Williamson Street for a reported drug overdose.

Upon arrival, officers found two individuals unconscious and suffering from apparent drug overdoses.
Officials said a woman was successfully resuscitated; however, the second individual, identified as 54-year-old Roger Benthal, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It is further alleged that the investigation led authorities to Edwards Jr. in connection with the narcotics involved.
Subsequent toxicology testing determined that Benthal had Carfentanil in his bloodstream.
On Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, Edwards Jr. was arraigned in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township on a count of delivery of a controlled substance causing death, a felony punishable by life or any term of years.
This is the maximum charge permitted by law based on the evidence presented to date.
Edwards Jr.’s bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety.
He must wear a GPS tether if released.
Edwards Jr. is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., at the 41B District Court in Clinton Township.
