STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The City of Sterling Heights has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for homes on Denoter Drive following a water main break that caused a temporary loss of water pressure in the area.

The advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution -- the break meets the criteria for a boil water advisory under state guidelines.

No other streets or neighborhoods are affected.

The Sterling Heights Department of Public Works is working to restore water service.

Until the advisory is lifted, residents on Denoter Drive are advised not to drink tap water without boiling it first.

Bottled water is safe to use.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.

Residents should continue these precautions until the boil water advisory is officially lifted.

Although water service is expected to be restored within a few hours, the advisory will remain in effect for 48 hours, through Friday, Jan. 30.

The advisory may be lifted sooner if water quality tests confirm the water is safe.

Residents with questions can contact the Sterling Heights Department of Public Works at 586-446-2440.
