ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 20-year-old Joel Edwards was bound over to stand trial on all charges related to an alleged plan to attack a school.
On Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, Edwards’s preliminary exam was held in the 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the judge ruled there is sufficient evidence to bind Edwards over for trial on all counts.
Edwards faces the following charges:
- Intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school, school employees, or students with specific intent to carry out or an overt act toward the threat, a 10-year felony.
- Using a computer to commit a crime is a 10-year felony.
- Weapons: a felony firearm, a two-year felony consecutive to the main charge.
Edwards is scheduled to be arraigned in the Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
The investigation began on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, when St. Clair Shores police conducted a cyber threat investigation and a welfare check on Edwards.
The FBI contacted Michigan State Police about TikTok videos allegedly linked to Edwards that expressed a desire to carry out a mass shooting.
Michigan State Police then contacted St. Clair Shores police.
It is alleged that weapons were found in Edwards’ possession, and further investigation determined he planned to attack a school.
Edwards has been in custody continuously since Sept. 13, 2025, when he was held for a mental health evaluation.
