CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI – A Michigan firearms dealer is facing federal charges for allegedly importing Russian machine gun conversion devices and attempting to conceal the purchases, authorities said. Chase Farmer, 23, of St. Clair Shores, is accused of illegally importing Glock conversion devises and drop-in auto sears using a Russian website between November 2020 and March 2021. Farmer, owner of federally licensed firearms dealer Shall Not Be Infringed, based in Clinton Township, was licensed to sell firearms, but he was not licensed to import firearms, including the conversion devices. However, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives detected the purchases and recovered evidence of the crimes. Farmer is also accused of failing to keep proper records as a licensed firearms dealer.

Woman found dead with head trauma on I-94 in Macomb County
ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI – Police are investigating after a woman was found dead along eastbound I-94 in Macomb County. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Metro North Post responded to the scene on the well-traveled highway at 9 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores at 7:45 a.m. on Friday. The female was found with head trauma, police said. Troopers are attempting to determine if the location is the crime scene or if her death happened somewhere else. Anyone with information or who may have seen something overnight in the area of I-94 and 8 Mile Road should contact Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP or the Metro North Post at 248-584-5740.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI -- A head-on crash with a freeway support column left two people dead in St. Clair Shores Saturday morning, police said. At about 2:55 a.m. Oct. 1, Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to the area of the eastbound I-94 freeway near Stephens Road in St. Clair Shores for a reported vehicle crash. A Ford F-150 truck was heading eastbound on I-94 when the driver began gradually leaving the roadway to the right, police said. The truck was driven up a roadside embankment before it hit the Stephens Road overpass support column head-on, police said. The vehicle caught fire soon after, as two occupants were trapped inside, police said.

While working as an officer in Hamtramck, Stout is accused of accepting bribes, including a vehicle and $1,500 in cash, from a towing company operator. In return, Stout allegedly provided information from the Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network, or LEIN, a restricted law enforcement database, to the towing company operator. For instance, when the towing company operator told Stout that he was worried that a police vehicle had been following him, Stout allegedly called an unwitting police department employee to search LEIN. Stout then allegedly provided the vehicle’s registration information to the towing company operator. In September, Detroit City Council member Andre Spivey pleaded guilty to accepting bribes related to oversight of towing policy; he later resigned.

Dolores Bury, 94, of St. Clair Shores, formerly of Harper Woods, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020. Predeceased by her husband, Chester, she is survived by their children, Donna Kotzan (Joe) of Clarkston, Bob (Mary Ann) of Grosse Pointe and Janice Zink (Barry) of Pompano Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Being with her children and their children always was her first priority. She lived independently until her death, just days after decorating her condo for Christmas, one of her favorite times of the year. A funeral Mass for Dolores will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms, followed by entombment at Resurrection Cemetery.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI – The second-degree murder charge has been dropped in the case of a man accused of sucker punching another man at a bar leading to his death. Hatum Akrawi, 33, is now facing a manslaughter charge in the Dec. 22, 2019, incident that led to the death of 47-year-old Shawn Kubic, FOX 2 Detroit reports. Kubic died four days after being punched once and knocked unconscious at Kapones Sports Tavern in St. Clair Shores. After Kubic’s death, Akrawi was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, the report said. Chief Judge Mark Fratarcangeli of the 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores made the decision to drop the murder charge, the report said.
