3 years later: Michigan State University community honors victims on anniversary of campus mass shooting

The Michigan State University community came together to honor the three lives lost when a man opened fire on campus three years ago.

Arielle Anderson, Brian Fraiser, and Alexandria Verner were killed in that tragic shooting.

Since then, the school has made several changes, including active violence response training, new door locks, and the creation of a security operations center.

Classes were canceled so students could access on-campus mental health services.

‘This is a calling’: Sterling Heights traffic stop turns into fundraiser for 4-year-old battling cancer

A routine traffic stop in Sterling Heights turned into an extraordinary display of community support for a family whose child is battling spinal cancer.

When Sterling Heights police officers investigated an occupied vehicle outside the Extended Stay America Suites hotel, they had no idea their interaction would raise thousands of dollars for a family in need.

The Brown family, from Iron Mountain in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, had been staying at the hotel while their 4-year-old son, Zayden, underwent radiation treatment in Royal Oak following the removal of a spinal tumor.

Since Medicaid doesn’t cover his treatment at out-of-state hospitals, the family has to travel to the Metro Detroit area, which is closer to them.

Detroit Lions fans’ Super Bowl trip goes viral, leads to VIP surprise at Ford Field

Daniel Brinker and Harry Schroeder have been friends -- family, really -- for more than 50 years.

They first met when Harry started dating Daniel’s sister in 1975.

“He’s just very loving, caring, and he’s a great guy,” Brinker said on Friday afternoon. “He’s very humble, and he wants everybody to have a great day.”

As for what he thinks of his brother-in-law.

“He takes care of the family in a very big way,” Schroeder said. “If it wasn’t for Daniel, a lot of things that we do as a family would not happen.”

It was one of the most unexpected things to come out of last weekend’s Super Bowl.

A pair of lifelong friends and Detroit Lions fans were spotted by a reality star at a concession stand, and it turned into a thrill of a lifetime.

‘We were extremely close’: Son’s emotional testimony, bodycam video highlight Day 2 of Warner murder trial

Relationship troubles and police interviews took center stage Friday in the second day of the murder trial for Dale Warner.

Dale is accused of killing his wife, Dee, in 2021 and concealing her body for years before it was discovered inside a fertilizer tank miles from the couple’s home.

He is facing murder charges.

Proceedings began with a delay on Friday (Feb. 13) afternoon after a juror expressed concern about being captured on camera.

Once that issue was resolved, the prosecution called Dee’s son, Zackery Bock, to the stand.

Bock testified that he lived with his mother and Dale several times after high school and described a tumultuous household.

“We were extremely close,” Bock said of his relationship of his mother. “We talked and saw each other just about every day.”

Weather: Mid-February thaw arrives for holiday weekend in Metro Detroit

Valentine’s Day plans appear to be in good shape across the region. Whether heading out for dinner, attending events downtown, or enjoying outdoor activities, the weather is expected to cooperate.

Afternoon temperatures around 40 degrees will ease back into the 30s during the evening hours, which is mild by mid-February standards, with dry skies and light winds.

While a coat will still be needed after sunset, conditions are expected to be quiet, with no rain or snow to disrupt reservations or travel.
