DETROIT – Detroit Animal Care and Control has rescued 40 dogs from a home on Detroit’s east side.
The incident occurred on Friday (Feb. 13) around 1:15 p.m. in the 14700 block of Liberal Street.
Police officers said they found an elderly woman who had fallen and needed hospitalization.
During the welfare check, police reported finding multiple dogs living in squalid conditions.
Detroit Animal Care and Control was called to the scene.
Police said at least 40 small dogs, ranging from puppies to adults, were removed from the home.
Officials said the animals were living in deplorable conditions, including two dogs who were found deceased.
Police said the dogs removed have been taken to the Detroit Animal Care and Control facility for medical evaluation and care.
