Planning commission tables decision on Bloomfield Hollows project in Oakland County

Developers want to use about 30 wooded acres, east of Franklin Road, and north of Square Lake

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The decision on a new event space in Bloomfield Township has been tabled.

This, after neighbors packed a planning commission meeting on Monday (Feb. 16) to voice their concerns about the project.

The plan is to build “Bloomfield Hollows,” a venue for large events such as concerts and festivals.

Developers want to use about 30 wooded acres, east of Franklin Road, and north of Square Lake.

But nearby residents said they only learned about the plans in the last few weeks and didn’t have a chance to share their thoughts.

“It is going to be a significant safety risk, not just to my four kids and my house that are less than a hundred yards from a thousand drunk people, but for the entire neighborhood. How on earth do we expect anybody at this event center to corral a thousand people in the dark on 31 acres?”

Commissioners did admit developers could’ve spent more time speaking with neighbors about the project.

In the end, the group voted to table the decision until the next meeting.
