WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday.

Moore is set to appear in the 14-A District Court in Washtenaw County at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 for a motion hearing regarding his attorney’s request to have the charges against him dismissed.

The hearing follows Moore’s appearance in court on Jan. 22 for a probable cause conference. He arrived at the courthouse with his wife.

The proceeding was adjourned after his defense attorney requested 30 days to review statements the complaining witness made to the university.

“Mr. Moore is innocent of these charges,” said Ellen Michaels, Moore’s attorney, after the Jan. 22 hearing. “Today, on behalf of Mr. Moore, we filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant and dismiss the complaint. We’ve requested that the court grant a Franks hearing because the warrant was issued based on false and misleading statements presented as fact. We’re confident the truth will come out in court, under oath, where it belongs. Mr. Moore and his family respectfully ask for your privacy. Thank you.”

The complaining witness is an athletic department employee with whom Moore was accused of having an inappropriate relationship. That alleged relationship led to Moore’s termination.

Moore was arrested on Dec. 10 after a 911 call reporting a man attacking a woman in a Pittsfield Township apartment.

He was later detained and placed in protective custody by mental health professionals.

Moore has been charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

During his Dec. 12 arraignment, prosecutors said Moore and the staffer had been involved in an intimate relationship “for a number of years.”

Prosecutors said the staff member ended the relationship on Dec. 8, but Moore continued calling and texting her.

Moore was fired after the staff member reported the matter to the university.

On Dec. 10, Moore allegedly went to the staff member’s apartment, grabbed “several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors” from a drawer, and threatened to hurt himself.

He left after the woman threatened to call her lawyer and the police, officials said.

Moore was released on a $25,000 bond and is required to wear a GPS tether, undergo mental health treatment, and have no contact with the alleged victim.
