Suspicious powder sent to Oakland County GOP office is non-hazardous, police say

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The suspicious powder found in an envelope sent to the Oakland County Republican Party headquarters was tested and determined to be a non-hazardous material, police said.

Bloomfield Township police said the powder was tested on Saturday, Feb. 21, according to a release.

This update comes after officers responded to a report of a suspicious package at the office, which is located at 42611 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Township, at around 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.

According to police, an envelope containing the powdery substance was discovered at the location. Officers secured the scene and confiscated the envelope for further testing.

Authorities said they do not believe the incident is isolated and are investigating whether it may be connected to other suspicious packages sent to GOP-affiliated offices across Michigan.
