FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Genesee County woman is facing multiple felonies after reportedly leaving two children with special needs alone for several days.

According to authorities, the investigation began when a neighbor called police to conduct a welfare check on a Flint Township home on Feb. 18. Police said they found the home in horrific conditions, with feces smeared on the walls, trash covering nearly every inch of the floor and a sink overflowing with water still running.

Inside, two children with special needs were found. Police said one child was curled up on the bedroom floor in fear, while the other was found eating raw, spoiled meat.

The children reportedly had been left alone for several days with no access to a phone or food.

Police believe the mother had abandoned them.

On Feb. 20, Krystal Farmer was charged with two counts of child abandonment, two counts of child abuse, two counts of child abuse in the presence of another child, and lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation.

Authorities credit the neighbor who called 911 for ensuring the children were removed from the home, potentially saving their lives.
