DETROIT – A 19-year-old has been charged in a crash that killed a 9-year-old girl on Detroit’s west side.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, near the intersection of Tireman Avenue and Southfield Road.
Authorities believe Gregory Bester Louis Austin was speeding on the Southfield Freeway Service Drive and ignored a red light at Tireman Avenue, hitting the passenger side of an eastbound vehicle.
Prosecutors said he was driving at about 70 mph in a 30 mph zone and that video of the crash captured “no braking.”
The crash killed 9-year-old Fatoumatu Diallo and injured a 53-year-old woman.
Austin was arraigned from a hospital bed Tuesday, Feb. 24. He was charged with reckless driving causing death, reckless driving causing serious impairment, driving while license suspended, revoked, or denied causing death, and driving while license suspended, revoked, or denied causing serious impairment.
Austin’s bond was set at $50,000.
