DEARBORN, Mich. – The Henry Ford has announced it will no longer host its popular “Day Out With Thomas” event due to unexpected mechanical complications involving the steam-powered Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive.

While the event is offered at other venues around the country using a different powered model, that version is not compatible with the historic train operations in Greenfield Village, according to a Facebook post from museum officials.

In the comment section of the post, someone said, “The entire event is canceled?”

“Yes,” museum officials responded. “The signature element of Day Out With Thomas is a train ride on Thomas the Tank Engine. The decision to end Day Out With Thomas at Greenfield Village was not an easy decision, and every alternative was explored. Unfortunately, none of the alternatives were viable, and there are no plans to bring Day Out With Thomas to Greenfield Village in the future.”

The annual event has been a longstanding tradition at the Dearborn institution, bringing families together for train rides, themed activities, and opportunities to see the beloved children’s character brought to life.

“The Henry Ford has been a proud host of this program for 25 years and we thank Mattel, Inc. for their incredible partnership,” museum officials said. “We also thank the thousands of members and guests who have experienced this event and joined us for a memorable Day Out With Thomas.”
