Shooting at Novi apartment complex puts nearby schools in ‘secure mode’

Police believe there’s no danger to public

NOVI, Mich. – A shooting at an apartment complex in Novi caused schools in the area to go into “secure mode.”

Several shots were fired Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2026, at the Central Park Estates, which is in the area of Beck Road and Grand River Avenue in Novi.

A Detroit man in his late 30s was struck multiple times, the source said. He went to the hospital under his own power.

Police are searching the area for the shooter. They said this shooting was isolated and they don’t believe there’s any danger to the public.

A non-emergency alert was sent by the Novi Community School District letting parents know that some school buildings were in “secure mode.”

“Earlier this morning, it was reported that shots were fired in a community directly adjacent to Providence Hospital in Novi,” Superintendent Ben Mainka said. “We were immediately notified and promptly went into secure mode out of an abundance of caution to protect our students and staff.”

Secure mode means the buildings were secured from the outside, but all activities inside the building continued as normal. Nobody is allowed to enter or exit the building during secure mode.

Around 1 p.m., the district informed WDIV that secure mode has been lifted. Students will return from school as scheduled on Wednesday afternoon, and the rest of the day is continuing as planned.
