DETROIT – A Detroit man accused of killing his wife with a plastic sword and pliers has pleaded guilty.
On May 4, 2025, Kathryn Morgan, 67, was found dead with multiple stab wounds on her back and head.

After further investigation, police learned that Kathryn Morgan was stabbed multiple times with a plastic sword and was struck in the head with a pair of pliers, killing her.
Kathryn Morgan’s husband, Timothy Morgan, 68, was charged with first-degree murder after he turned himself in.

On Feb. 25, 2026, Timothy Morgan pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder just weeks before his trial was scheduled to begin.
In the state of Michigan, sentencing for a guilty but mentally ill plea is the same as if they were convicted of the crime. If committed to the Michigan Department of Corrections, the defendant must receive further psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
He is expected to be sentenced on March 17 at 8:30 a.m.
